This is a discussion on the origins and inspiration of the Wejnan app. It is followed by a discussion on the value of the app.

Pooja: Hi everybody. Guess where we are coming to you from?

Malay: We are on the center of the earth. I say “on” because it is Ecuador and we are in a cloud forest.

Pooja: And you can get a little bit of a peek of it, isn't it? So green and beautiful!

Malay: On the mountains, through the clouds. And before this, we were in a completely different place. Galapagos, which was entirely islands and oceans, which was fantastic, beautiful because we saw giant sea lions, giant tortoises, sharks.

Pooja: We saw beautiful fishes that were so colorful and vibrant. We swam with them.

Malay: And then we transitioned to tarantulas and glass frogs and crabs.

Pooja: And the most interesting thing, a scorpion spider, which has the head of a scorpion with the body of a spider. That was weird. But that did make us think that maybe we should talk about our app today.

Malay: Exactly.

Pooja: Now, the reason why we're talking about the app here is because… take Malay and me for personalities. I'm not really adventurous, like, at least when it comes to jungles and, you know, swimming in the ocean and things like that. Malay, on the other hand, is, I would say, a bit of an adventure junkie. He vibes on it.

Malay: So without further ado and to unpack this, let's start by understanding what Wejnan is. Now, first of all, I'm pronouncing the name, but you tell us, how do you pronounce this word?

Pooja: It's really simple. So think of it in two separate parts. We-nyan. Or Win-yaan. Now that we've got the pronunciation, why don't you talk about the history of the app?

Malay: Well, the word “Jnan” is Sanskrit for knowledge. Vijnan is Sanskrit for science. “We”jnan is a fusion word which is the knowledge of we or us, in this case, relationships. Now, the big question is, what led us to start the app?

Pooja: I think it was our own marriage that led us to start this app. We come from such different parts of India. Even though in the same country, we come from such different cultural backgrounds, such different experiences, that I think early on in our marriage, we were having a little bit of a challenge communicating with each other.

There was a lot of love, there was a very strong desire to be together. But simple day to day conversations would make us sometimes feel that, “Well, this is so obvious. Why is he not getting it? Or why is she not getting it?” And we kind of dove quite deep into understanding relationships and personality conversation styles. We then realized that if we're struggling so much with these kind of things that seem so obvious, there are so many other people - and not just couples, maybe siblings, parents and kids, work colleagues, friends - so many communication issues that an app like this could solve.

Malay: Yeah, that's very true. And that happens to be the root cause of pretty much every problem around us. If we could understand each other better, I don't need to explain just how profound an impact it would have. And so was born the Wejnan app.
